Is sports betting online legal?
In the UK it is legal to gamble online so long as the company is registered with the Government. There are many different bookmakers who can legally take your bets but our personal favourites include 888Sport, Ladbrokes, William Hill and Betfair.
What are the different types of bet?
WIN BET
The most typical bet which you will come across online is a WIN bet. This is essentially you betting money on a certain outcome occurring.
EACH WAY
Commonly found in horse-racing, but also in other sports, an each-way bet is essentially 2 bets. Half of your money is placed on the win-outcome with the other half being placed on your outcome finishing in the Top X places (defined per event).
LAY BET
A lay bet is to bet that an outcome won’t occur. For example, you could bet that Cristiano Ronaldo won’t score a goal in a game. If he doesn’t, you win whatever you stake – but if he does score you lose your stake multiplied by the odds that he would score. Lay betting is not for the feint-hearted!
